2019 Grant Recipients
In October, 2019, SisterFund awarded two $20,000 grants to organizations in our community. Assisting Families of Inmates and Sports Backers' Fitness Warriors. This was a first for our giving circle! Every year, we receive grant applications from so many worthy organizations and we were ecstatic to be in a position to make these awards.
Assisting Families of Inmates has a mission to provide opportunities for regular and meaningful visitation, referrals to community resources and vital services that help families cope with incarceration and prepare for release and reunification. Last year, they provided nearly 3,000 transportation visits and hundreds of video visits for individuals in Virginia's adult and juvenile correctional facilities, something Fran Boling, Executive Director, is very proud. Our hats are off to Angie Strickland, Director of Programs & Development, Patrick Link, Family Services & Marketing Manager and Bobbi Gray, Video Visitation Program Coordinator for the work you do in our community.
Sports Backers' Fitness Warriors has a mission to inspire people from all corners of our community to live actively by training area residents who have talent, passion, and potential to be professional fitness instructors for Richmond’s communities with the highest rates of chronic disease. Tiffany Copeland, Fitness Warriors Progam Manager is passionate about role to impact the black community by offering free fitness classes for every level of fitness.
